Around the Corner

She stands, waiting
Watching her drown in tears
She peeks around the corner
He downs another beer
All she hears is yelling
As he breaks another glass
Now he's drinking whiskey
The blows are coming fast

Now her mom is sobbing
Begging him to stop
But he just keeps on wailing
Soon she's going to drop
Just a little girl
Only eight years old
Peeking around the corner
Hiding like she's told

She stands, waiting
Wishing it was over
She wants her mama back
But a new mom's going to hold her
They call this foster care
And it's all so strange
But in her heart she knows
She'll have better days
