Arranged Marriage

Arranged Marriage

She tries to look pretty
Silently refusing their pity

She plasters on a weak smile
Dreading walking down the aisle

While the guests sip their Chai
Her betrothed straightens his tie

She has been so strong
Has held in tears for so long

She has given up her joy
To be a man’s latest toy

That’s what they are told
That they are not gold

They were born to cook and clean
And raising children is in their genes

Their worth is their beauty
And marriage is a duty
