Arrival of Death

Skimming words while pausing slightly
my eyes start to water
now being claimed by death
as i prepare for the great slaughter
The everlasting war has just begun
but i am full of self pity and anger
who would have the heart to do this?
and that question had a linger
Closer to the end we are
the more frightened i become
when we finally reach
my heart is like a drum
This is it, i thought
and as i breathe my final breath
i am out into a peaceful sleep
called death.
