As a Mother Buries Her Own

As a mother buries her own
They claim they don't see color
And as a mother buries her own
The murderer walks free
As another life is lost
They cradle their guns
As another child starves
They claim that all lives matter
The bullets that take the best of us
Are not taken away
A mother closes the coffin lid
The wood that seals off all his dreams
They refuse to relinquish the weapons
That are meant to protect
They refuse to acknowledge the lives
That don't matter to them
Another teen is locked up in a cage meant for monsters
Taken there by the monsters who will rape his sister
As a mother buries her own
Too many people sleep in ignorance
