As I Dream of Sweet Sleep

A huddle of sirens sing sweetly tunes
As my odyssey hurries on forward
Hungry for rest and food, I am cumbered
By a glowing screen, scratching unknown runes
Sleepless! that cloak swept away by runes' ward
I dreamt of peace, but still slouch under moons
And a dead home with only slumber's croons
So I stare at essays and terms, captured
This night, last night, next night, rhythm repeats
I felt it pressing down my eyes, in droves,
But my eyelids peel open, not to meet
The dark spell, by my nervous brain, unwove
And I, slowly, truly, worked til complete
Then hastened to my bed, a peace-filled alcove
An Ithaca, reached by long work, so sweet
