As the sand pours

As the sand pours out of the hourglass
The universe stands still and waits
A growing pile of present and past
Is filling in every free space
As bits of sand escape to oblivion
Memories play and dance a waltz
What retreats are the bad places we've been
As they run hand in hand with our faults
Free to fly and flying to be free
Once trapped but now spreading wings
Eyes opened to what we couldn't see
Blinded by possessions and things
Illuminated now, fully enlightened
With wonders never imagined
Gone is the darkness, forever brightened
A soul departed will never be saddened
A pile of dust now lays as a desert
The spirits all now holding hands
Gone but alive, free from the effort
We are these precious grains of sand
