Autism

My children's appearance
May look like any other child
Smiling politely
And often quite mild.

Speak to my children
They may not understand
All of what you've said
Or the gestures used by hand.

Listen to my children
And it may sound unclear
For what you've just heard
Might sound odd to your ear.

My children's behavior might seem strange
Flapping their hands or lining up their cars
Sometimes drifting off into "space"
Staring at all the stars.

Yes, my children have Autism,
No, they are not "dumb"
They are really quite remarkable
Once you get to know them.
