autumn: things i saw today

all the cars are wet in the morning
grapes cling to vines for late harvest
skies full of cloud-colored chem trails
thin white lines or splayed cottony wisps
year-round fires with draught in bloom
left lane closed for highway repairs
yet no workers are even in sight
halloween thanksgiving xmas lights
unrequited catalogs clog the mails
season of ghosts turkeys and jesus
tricks black fridays cards maxed out
no complaints and no end in sight
