Baba

Your hand is warm against mine now
Soon it will be cold
Your rhythm fills my ears
Eventually it will be silent

Day dreaming as I watch your chest rise
My guts tear every time it falls
Day and night become a single blur
My thoughts are confused

I’m incoherent
My tears stain my cheeks
You can no longer wipe them away
They will never leave

The purple begins to grow
Starting at your round feet
Inching upwards slowly
Into unknown territory

Your mind is still vibrant
It always has been
Your body tortures it
Stealing its expressions

The last day comes
You act like your normal self
It’s life giving its last goodbye
Before it leaves you

We laugh and hold each other
I get to gaze upon your smile
Your everlasting vibrant smile
One more time

Your eyes were your window
Your body makes them hazy now
What matters now is presence
And mine was always by your side

The time came for you to go
We all sat by your side
And spoke sweet words to your mind
Your ears ate them up

When they came to take you away
I let go of your hand
Lay it down on your bed
And put your eyes to rest

As the door opened
I took my last gaze
Whispered gentle words in your ear
And kissed your forehead one last time
