baptism

blood-drop marks a trail down her thigh
tear-red stain she looks down with a sigh
it’s arrived with intensity, reminder to deny
in pain we trust, idealism twists insides lie

everyone talks of sex and pretend love,
green-eyed money, unbothered God above,
neglect the one bedroom rat infested
floor mattress bed congested
beginning of a menstruating girl,
eyelids shutters, petals unfurl
her hands are full of family struggle
identity takes backseat to solid car rubble
She fights through hell until her eyes are blinded
By victory’s light, she found better hell unguided
Salt sweat tears saturate earth, conviction remains
replace her curves with lines, masculine veins,

Pull yourself up, they yell
to her vantage point, a bloodbath well
her baptism.
