Battle of Nothing

Lighthouse, standing alone on your rocky shore.
Your beacon of light protruding into the blackness,
protecting the seamen on the waves from your dangerous coast.

The only superficial structure.
You are like me,
standing alone courageously fighting a battle of nothing.
It all seems pointless, doesn't it, night watchman of the sea?

But still we fight.
You with your light and me with my words.
Setting ourselves apart from the world, but
keeping a finger on the pulse of humankind.

We see things other people don't.
Me looking back at life's faults and you looking forward,
knowing there will be more.

Two warriors fighting a battle of nothing.
