Be steady, I whisper
to calm the thunder from my heart.
Be silent, I speak
to the roaring in my ears.
Calm I wish
to the racing of my mind.
As evil lurks around me
and slips upon my skin.
Be strong, I beg
to my body as it shivers.
For solace I pray
to the rushing of my tears.
Be still, I command
to the quickening of my breath.
Mighty is the cold
that takes my life from me.
Be hopeful, I embolden
to the dampening of my soul.
Remember everything,
all the love that’s touched my heart.
Be the light
as darkness looms.
My strength is not in body,
but in mind and heart.
