Be Cruel to Be Kind
Annihilate me with your silence
Destroy me with your indifference
Break me down as the miles tear us apart
Forget me to death, ignore me
the way you were always taught how.
Look at me. But don't see me
Feel the residue of my lips on your skin
but don't remember me.
Write me unfinished sentences
and apologies that blame me.
Kill me with the way you look at her,
with the cigarette that means more to you;
With the throat of the bottle that you kiss nightly,
scare me. When I tell you "I love you" -
laugh and nod. With your confident smile say "yes." As usual.
Scare me into believing you are not worthy of me;
hurt me into becoming confident,
for we are only
as strong as the pain we can take
Damage me, wound me, devastate me.
Hurt me until the pain I can take is a wonderful equation:
less than you are giving
Hurt me baby, mutilate me, disfigure me
into loving myself.
