Because You Didn’t Die That Day

You, my son, are more than love.
You are more than peace.
You are more than life.
You are bigger and better than now.
You were given the gift of life.
You, my son, have struggled with the person you are.
You have struggled with the person you are trying to become.
You have become stuck inside your head.
You have become stuck struggling with your own demons.
You, my son, deserve to be loved everyday.
You deserve to have the peace you are longing for.
You deserve to have the life you can be proud of.
You deserve to be here, right now, with no regrets.
You, my son, almost died that day.
Pieces of me died when I saw you that day.
Your life was spared that day.
You, my son, were given a second glimpse.
I was given more time to watch you grow that day.
You didn't die that day, you were given life to live here and now.
You didn't die that day, you were given the gift to love again.
You didn't die that day, you can have peace, if you reach for it.
Because you didn't die that day,
I didn't either.
