Before the Snow Falls

Before the world is covered in snow,
And the blanket hides its flaws.
There is a darkness in this place
Of shadow driven, hateful claws.

A field of battle raw and worn
That rends our brother's souls.
Ragged wounds borne in our hearts
Deepening those holes.

A peaceful heaven-send now
Flutters like angel's feathers.
Numbing cold for memories
That chained us with their tethers.

I dare not break the solemn seal and
Release the things that I have seen.
So, I look away instead and choose
To let the white cover remain pristine
