Being A Woman

It was like a scene right out of a dream
We laughed; we loved; we beamed
My heart soared for you
But then I realized it wasn’t true

I gave you my all
You ripped it apart
I screamed and I bawled
But I wasn’t your true sweetheart

I cried
I died
So much inside
But I remembered what Mother told me

“Being a woman means more
than cleaning and cooking.’’
“Being a woman means going out the
back door.”
“Being a woman means we shouldn’t cry.’’
“Because being a woman, we should always try.”

Being a woman, means keeping it inside.
Because as a woman, I don’t wanna hide
Behind a mask of tears.
