Below the Waves

I lay on the ocean
Calm as it may be
The sun warms my skin
The cool water flows beneath me
The sea stretches on around me, infinitely
I am alone
A chill washes over me as a cloud streaks across the rays
The water becomes angrier
Neither help nor land are within eyesight
I am alone
The first wave fills my lungs
The next wave takes its predecessor’s place as I choke for air
Mercilessly, they push me further into the heart of the sea
The endless wall of water subdues my hopeless fighting
My tears mix with the salt
I am alone
My heart continues to race even as I try to calm
Deeper into the water I fall
Its droplets carressing and pulling me to the bottom
I accept it
I am alone
