Beneath the Kiss

Dark waves tumble upon the pale sand
Greeting with a harsh kiss
The sun lazily drifts away as
Melodic squawks fade
White watercolor clouds lay over a gray backdrop
Damp sand burrows under the cracked skin of my heel
The breeze pulling me closer,a silent siren
Chills straighten my spine as water engulfs my ankles
My pockets hit the water
I am pulled down
Sinking further with each step
With one last breath
My hair surrounds me
Branching out
Hoping to save me
Reaching for the surface
The weight of my pockets paralyzing me
My struggle slows
My pace stills
My face pales
My eyes open
And I’m thankful the last thing
That graces my dead eyes
The beautiful mess
Of a kiss stolen by the waves on the sand
