Bird’s Eye View

Its wings were like a metal eagle flying,
Its speed we couldn’t really contemplate,
Half built in France and other half in England,
March 69 it’s inaugural date.
A billion pounds of consequent investment,
Three and a quarter hours to USA,
But when on 25th July 2000,
It’s fate was sealed when fell to earth that day.
Only ever 20 manufactured,
So travelling aboard was quite a coup,
The fastest supersonic that the world’s seen,
interpretation of a “birds eye view”.
Twice the speed of sound was some achievement,
You knew when it was flying overhead,
“Glamorous and elegant, a classic”,
Were just some of the acolades they said.
If this magnificence had been a person,
You’d find it hard ignoring its big nose,
But unlike Cyrano de Bergerac,
It’s size thought worthy of untarnished prose!
Although it hasn’t run for 17 years,
The story of it never makes us bored,
So raise your glass to supersonic travel,
Ladies, gentlemen, here’s to Concorde!
