Birthday

It seemed like a lifetime
Though nine months was all it was,
Selflessly caring for and nurturing
A blessing from up above.
I counted down the months.
The weeks then turned to days.
I hurried along the final hours,
Not another minute could I wait.
I cried when I first saw you
Streams of overjoyous tears.
Happiness overwhelmed me,
A true miracle was here.
I cradled you in my arms,
Held you in a close embrace.
I had longed for this moment far too long
To meet you face to face.
There was no questioning
The undeniable bond we both shared.
To the mutual devotion and unconditional love
Nothing could compare.
