Bitter Anvil

The bitter anvil of loneliness
gathers dust,
unyielding
to quiet moans of woe from
cold steel spears of
what if.
Conjoined in fateful rue,
fearing the sting of morning's
unchanged heavy burden
we pine
for the lightened load of reverie.
