Bless This America

You always sheltered me
And you always protected me
From the storm that was raging
In the middle of the east
Now I've lost my best friend
And I've lost my hero
In the storm that came thundering
From the middle of the east
My God, You bless this America
Oh my God, You bless this America
Take my hand and lead me from here
For I've seemed to have lost my way
All this darkness it surrounds me with fear
Won't You help me find my way
Ease all this pain that's left inside of me
Please help me live again
Show me all that's left here for me
Go because I'm breaking down again
My God, You bless this America
Oh my God, You bless this America

This Poems Story

As I watched the horrific events unfold before me on 9/11/2001, I sat down and wrote "Bless This America" to help me cope with the pain I felt for the loss of so many of my American brothers and sisters. I thought of the terror their loved ones were living through and what I would want to say if I lost my mother, father, brother, or wife on that dark September morning.
