Blind by Choice

Maybe if I close my eyes slowly the world
won't crumble so quickly
Maybe then I could pretend my own heart wasn't sickly
I would gladly go blind to the world if it would give me peace
Gladly trade in all the worlds injustices if it could buy me sleep
If only the world had enough integrity to know
That there are some secrets it should keep.
That sometimes knowing,
Is a pain that runs far too deep I feel it seep into my heart
See it seep through my countries' children
See them plagued through racism,
see them plagued through religion
Sometimes I wonder if I should say nothing
But then I think about how saying nothing
fails to change something
Maybe if I pretend not to hear I can pretend that it wasn't said
Can pretend that close mouths have always been fed
That hate isn't bred. Like we can go blind and be okay
Listen to what all the privileged liberals say
If being blind to injustice can free us
Don't you think the world be free today?
Maybe if I take the easy way out and ignore the bleeding
I can feign healing instead of death so I can skip the grieving
Maybe If I close my eyes slowly
the world won't crumble so quickly
Maybe then I could pretend my own heart wasn't sickly
I would gladly go blind to the world if it would give me peace
