Bluebonnet Field

My mind wanders relentlessly
Back to Bluebonnet Field
A flower bed's royal spread
Waving halos of angelic appeal
In full bloom as our love was revealed
On brilliant display
Each flower raising a toast to us
To mark a most treasured day

The sunset reflected amber
Inside your deep eyes on the hill
I recall the encouraging breeze
As we confessed how we feel
Complete perfection canvassed the ground
For our love's sweet debut
Oh! how I believed in miracles, fate,
But mostly in you

Why have you abandoned me
Amidst the purplish-blue sky?
I should have never embraced this beauty
If it meant goodbye
I wander, lost, weaving in and out
Between rows of floral bliss
Pondering what I missed
In Bluebonnet Field, waiting for your kiss

This Poems Story

I am an artist, author, illustrator, storyteller, and poet. I especially love nature and its beauty. The inspiration for this poem came from looking at a photograph of a vibrant bluebonnet field in Texas. It made a gorgeous impression. I imagined a scene of new lovers meeting there, wandering through the lush flowers to feel the beginnings of love. Such drawing of natural beauty could also be the scene once again when one lover returns later to reminisce on that love, now vanished. Bluebonnet Field is a consoling presence, offering its intense beauty for an emotional release.
