Breakfast in a seaside inn

and it tossed them back
my fingers clutched the pepper bottle
and my eyes forgot to blink
It tossed them far
and it tossed them back,
the restless sea of black
It turned a stern shade of grey,
and its waves made the vessel sway
the pitiful boat with its flapping oars
rising and falling and turning at the mercy of the waves
It tossed them far
and it tossed them back,
The restless sea of black
Who are 'them ',you might ask ?
Two little souls ,flowing with the winds pouring out of a heavenly flask
half drowned by the icy, impassive waters
rowing the boat with trembling arms
It tossed them far
and it tossed them back
the restless sea of black
When my eyes finally succumbed to blinking
I imagined the hapless boat sinking
I opened my eyes for what could be
and saw no boat ,no souls ,nothing but the sea
It tossed them far
and it tossed them back
the restless sea of black
I wished to save them, was I too late ?
the possibility was too revolting to contemplate
What had I been thinking ?
They might have really been sinking
It tossed them far
and it tossed them back,
the restless sea of black
I asked my acquaintance ,"Did you see a boat out there ?"
She gave me a plaintive, puzzled glare
and that settled it, I saw them again
I rescued the souls drowning in my mind
It sent them far
and it called them back,
the restless sea of black

This poem is about the mind and the sea ,more than anything else .Seeing something no one else does is strange ,and does make you wonder whether perspective is that compelling a difference .That being said ,I would like to clarify this poem is purely fiction ,but sometimes you need a stimulating companion for a story ,and the sea serves me well .
