Breaking Bonds

Surrounded by your closest friends.
You all look so much alike,
from your shape, to your size,
to the color and your imperfections.
The spitting image of the leaves right beside you.
Nestled closely together, like sardines in a can.
Your thoughts pulse through your veins, as you hang on
by a little string that keeps you dangling.
A bond keeping you from reaching the ground.
Although you look similar to your peers,
You are unique, and can change.
In the spring,
you are a soft, newly born green;
Summer makes you tan and grow.
The fall lets you stand out most of all,
Glowing as bright as the colors of the sun...
But then, there is winter.
A cool, crisp, biting force,
Coming sneakily as a cat.
Breaking your bond-
Making you fall to the ground, alone and helpless.
