Brick By Brick

She wasn't them,
But she didn't blame him for not being able to see it;
His vision was obstructed by the wall he had put up.
Rejection, disappointment, and heartbreak
Lined the walls that boxed in his heart.
There was a time when he let his heart roam free
Without fear of consequence.
Until they helped him hide it all away,
Brick by brick.
She wondered if she would ever find a way inside that box.
If she would ever find a way to knock down those walls.
To see the man she knew hid behind them.
To love him.
The way they should have.
The way she always would.
The way she wished he would.
