Brokedown Palaces

The ghetto is a base kingdom
filled with brokedown palaces
Where servants who once were princes
dwell with aching hearts and callouses

The ghetto is an earthly hell
where the lost children of defeated souls
Congregate in mutual misery
creating a vile culture where anything goes

The ghetto is a desolate place
populated by people with empty dreams
Whose desire is to live the rich lie
portrayed in movies and magazines

The ghetto is a goodly construct
built for poor spirits such as I
Imprisoned inside concrete poverty
to search for the truth as to why

The ghetto is a threshing ground
full of the firstfruits of Jesus Christ
Where the apostles of hope sprang forth
chosen to preach the gospel of life

The ghetto is a hallowed field
filled with raised-up tabernacles
Where princes who once were servants
have broken off their invisible shackles
