Broken Ties

A late morning sun beams around
a house that once stood proud.
The sprites of summer abound, but do not enter.
A family's heart cut at the center.

The terrors of a night still looming
Their kindest girl remains unassuming.
The cornerstone, shattered on the ground.
How the reserved leave their mark when found.

The broken pieces fray their minds,
This untied knot was all that binds
the two laces who look upon together.
When left alone the laces sever.

A husband tries to understand.
A misplaced mother without a wedding band.
Blame is too good a friend
When youth is put to its own end.
