Broken Wing

She looks in the mirror
What does she see
A decrepit old woman of 33
Instead of the dreamer at 23
Looking back at me
Her soul tired and weary

Life has been hard
Her hopes shattered to pieces
She gave her heart to a man in the dark
Now in the light there is only bleakness

She doesn't know how to flee the cage
That he built with stones and rage
He wrapped her in cloth and clipped her wings
So that she could stay close
For him only she'd sing

Now years have passed
But she forgot how to fly
Even though her wings have healed
And her tears have dried
She can't find the courage
To leave the lonely man that stands behind
