Building a Sundae

Preparing a sundae
In my kitchen
At midnight

Starting with a friendly vanilla base
Sprinkling a dose or two of laxative
Stirring in chocolate chips
for flavor.

Each scoop comes with a
Compulsive thought
Cramp from an upset stomach
Couple of fingers against my throat

Each spoonful
Suffocating me with guilt
Searching for imaginary solace
Segregating logic and emotion

The pint looks empty
But I see
Two hundred
Ten and three
Two hundred and thirteen calories
Another failed week
