But For the Mercy

Contemplating the person,
I see in the mirror looking back.
Therein is a soul
that is like coal, midnight black.

I look at the Holy Bible,
Exodus 20, the Commandments Ten.
Going down the list,
I can check off every sin.

What I discovered
has filled me with shame.
For beside each sin,
I can place my name.

My old tattered soul,
should be condemned straight to Hell,
but for the Mercy of God
and the Sacrifice that caused the fires to quell.

So, all Praise to Jesus
God and the Holy Spirit too.
Remember my friend,
He will do the same for you.
