But You Were Not There

I heard your laughter,
And I heard the door shut,
But you were not there.

I stood across the street
Looking for you at the wooden porch,
But you were not there.

I blinked my eyes a hundred times
And prayed a little prayer,
But you were not there.

I remember your flowing hair
As well as your shining white smile,
But you were not there.

I would scream my feelings to you
And show you my love,
But you were not there.
