By the Edge of the Sea

By the edge of the sea mixed in with the sand
Lies a treasure so great by the edge of the sea
Though not a diamond or gold or money I am a treasure
I once lived free
Walking the seabed in the water so deep with others of my kind
Untouched and serene my life was so happy it seems but a dream
As I leave alone for the edge of the sea
My journey is long, strenuous, lonely
I make my way slowly toward the edge of the sea close to the edge
Tired and drained the waves carry me in to die peacefully
Here you will find me the star of the seas
My life that was great now lies in your hand
By the edge of the sea
