Cage

I slashed through my vibrant green cage
The thick vines that choked me
The leaves bright with poison
Wrapping around my neck

I took a knife to the hateful stems
With their unending tendrils
The roots dragging me down
To join them in the dirt

Triumphantly, I stood tall
Casting away the withered stalks
Tearing from their desperate grasp
Looking down at my fallen enemies

Around me were the scattered petals
The faded color of lost hope
Crushed beneath my ruthless fury
Dewy drops trailing down in rivers

And the sun shown down
On the once beautiful garden
Quivering in the wind
Crumbling in the dirt

And the rain came down in torrents
As I laid in the ruins
Of my once beautiful garden
Weeping in my victory
