Camping Together

You and I together
sit on the edge of a pier
both of us sweat in the sun
deprived of fun you push me in the lake
and I pull you with me
together we drift
stare up at the gliding birds
we dive under the surface
swim back to the sand
we emerge form puddles at our feet
the kids look at us like we’re crazy
as we head back to our towels
slowy I grow drowsy
and then I sleep on the beach
It’s only when the full moon is out
That I wake
I look around and the beach is empty
I start to call your name
Oh wait that’s right
You’re not real
wrap the towel around my flesh
I forgot I’m alone
