Candy Apple Diamond Dreams

When I was a boy
I had candy apple diamond dreams
Dreams of flying
Dreams of being the hero

Dreams of being a leader
Dreams of being a cowboy
Dreams of true love
Dreams of happiness and joy
Living happily ever after

As I grew
The dreams slowly dissolved with each sunset
The dreams stopped as I became a man
I remember the dreams now in the autumn of my years
Candy apple diamond dreams

Dissolved into the sunsets of years gone by
The dreams of a boy
Bright eyes
All of life in front of him
Just candy apple diamond dreams

This Poems Story

This poem was actually inspired by a dream I had when I was about five or six years old, 1963 or 1964. I Don't remember what the dream was about, just that it was a candy apple diamond. I told my dad about it and laughed, he would say, "Candy apple diamond." I would laugh every time. The name stuck in my head, I always wondered what I could use it for, then fifty-plus years later, this poem came to me; so that is the story behind the title.
