Captivity

No longer does the darkness faze
This hardened soul of mine.
Hidden from life and its deceptive ways,
I am captive till end of time.
The bricks and bars that are meant to guard
No longer hold me in.
For the world that has pronounced me mad
Has caged me from within.

I pray they realize that life,
Isn't just heartbeats and sighs.
And protection,
Isn't just shelter
from people's eyes.
As if keeping me from reality,
Could possibly restore my sanity.

And so I raise my hand,
And etch another tally
How many more days,
When will they free me?
And what seems to scare me?
What causes the most fright?
That it's not the darkness that imprisons me.
It's the light.
