She lifts up everyone's chins
Except for hers
She dries their tears as her own
Free-fall slowly without obstruction
Or objection
She offers them a crumbling shoulder
A jagged arm
A mind of red
A swollen head
She calms them with trembling hands
And brings them into her arms
Into a shaking body
She takes away their knives
And their blades
And sticks them in her own skin
"For safekeeping," she says.
