Chains

With outstretched arms
I run toward the One
That is supposed to
Love me most in life
When suddenly I feel
The weight of the shackles, the chains
On my wrists and ankles
Preventing me from moving
I'm chained to my past
Which haunts me day and night
I try to run toward the future
But the chains
Have me bound
Stuck in place
Preventing me from moving forward
With all my strength
I pull forward an inch
But the chains
They pull me back a mile
I have to forgive
I have to let go
I have to let the Lord
Into my heart
For the Lord is the only One
That can set me free
From these chains
That bind me
