Chalk Outline
This place where the colors meet
There’s a hue with my receipt
Amidst the shadows sinister and slight
Is a place of darkness, soft, and blight
Where the shrouds gather and spirits sigh
My veil of mist and cloak
Unraveled in the place where my spine broke
In the city streets where my life unfolds
It's a whimper of a life untold
Beneath the steel and concrete reign
Lies a life that struggled and waned
And left a chalk outline on the way to your train
There’s a hue with my receipt
Amidst the shadows sinister and slight
Is a place of darkness, soft, and blight
Where the shrouds gather and spirits sigh
My veil of mist and cloak
Unraveled in the place where my spine broke
In the city streets where my life unfolds
It's a whimper of a life untold
Beneath the steel and concrete reign
Lies a life that struggled and waned
And left a chalk outline on the way to your train

I read an article a while ago about someone who jumped from a building in New York and there was a picture of a chalk outline of where he landed and I just imagined everyone stepping over it.
