Chasing Rainbows

She leaves my dreams with dawn’s first light
She is in my thoughts as I lay down at night
I wish for just one moment, however fleeting
To touch her again, to give my life meaning
I pray to see her, just once to meet her gaze
So I can tell her how much she means to me in so many ways
I think of her every moment of every day
Wishing she felt about me in the same way
Unrequited. That is what they call
When you think of someone all the time-and they don’t think of you at all
I stay faithful to a hope, a wish, a dream; defying reality
Vowing my eternal love and devotion to a fantasy
Years go by and nothing has swayed my vow
I loved her then and I still love her now
Like Don Quixote, I fight for something that never existed
Refusing to accept my fate, to be realistic
One thing about love, one lesson I have learned:
The love that lasts the longest is the love that is never returned
