Chasing The Sky

On that summer day the sky was grey
Because something was about to change.
Life has lots of lessons to teach you
But you let them all go like a kite.
You closed your mind to the love that
Would have healed your heart from
Every pain of the past.
I was a gift from God that you never took the time to unwrap
Because the outside was too different.
I was a blessing from God but you sent me away too soon.
You needed a change of heart but
Too many lives were torn apart.
How would you ever know that my heart was not disabled
But full of love just waiting to be connected to a family.
Chances were lost, feelings were hurt but I still am a child of God.
And on the last days in this world I still am a child of God.
And on your last days in this world
I think you finally figured this out.
Trying to get your love was like chasing the sky.
I could never reach that high.
God is my father and let me keep my love for you
And call you my daddy.
