Chasing the Sun

She chased the sunshine
A ray of light smiling through the panes
The warmth kept her happy
But it never stayed

On days when clouds would rule the sky
She sat alone with a tear in her eye
Refusing to stray, to stubborn to move
She waited for days to ward off the gloom

Day after day, she sat and stared
Out the window to find her sun
Weeks and months turned to many years and soon she was old and frail

If only she knew the sun was there
under the clouds waiting to appear.
Yet silently she sat for so very long
Until one day her life was gone

This Poems Story

The idea of this poem came to me as I noticed my cats literally chasing the sun rays beating through the windows in my house.
