Childhood

A shelter warm with
Mirthful youth, against the
Harshest gales.
A white-hot coal that
Sears the flesh,
Bursting from its grasp.
A brand that chars
Through any depth,
Throbbing on our hides.
A diamond polished
In faceted charm,
Masking many flaws.
A shiftless river
We squint across,
Vitality unquenched.

Gawking and whistling with hero's
Uttered songs, wakefully musing
And stirred in reverie, eyes agog
For what is beyond
The scissor-short divinity
Of this cherished infinity.
