it was just a sigh
she replied
nothing more
nothing implied
I know her too well
shes cant hide her lies

that auditory exhale
dissipated disappointment
like a swirl of stagnant stress
diffused by a single breath
and with every inhale
I tasted the death of decree
shame restrained me
as I gasped for a parched plea

I felt helpless, afloat
in an ocean of apology
any response I could say
felt forced, fickle, a joke
and as she looked away
sorry caught in my throat
