Cigarette Smoke

Dark sky, eagle cry
Forbidden love haunts both our lives
Masking the cataclysmic past with opaque silence
As sorrow's shooting stab, tangible, for the breeze to hold
Onto the words we dare not speak
For fear of shattering the numb illusion we've created
Feigning to forget saps all our begotten strength
We inhale incestuous cigarette smoke
Embracing its affluent nicotine antidote
Seamlessly encircling us in its protective cocoon
Weaving webs, intricate as our star-crossed love
Fatal flaw, unsightly sin
Beginning again, only to more painfully end.
