Coal Door Window

Its Summer.
Its better
than Winter
when frost
lips burn. Small
fingers
turn circles,
etch spaces and figures
near the coal door.
A month, no now, a moment.
One memory crunches underfoot,
above the hot dusk chorus,
in the gravel nearest the heart
as a smile cracks nearly silently
loose.
I rust red to return.
