Code Blue

Then suddenly I am next
to the metallic machines
beeping steadily, supporting his life
supporting mine.
The line jumps,
the melody stops.

Like a dam that breaks,
they come forth like a tide
an unheard cry, calling to action.

Electric paddles reply
to a pale complexion.
Chest compressions pass,
in rapid succession.

I stand there stilled,
remain unaffected.
A sallow sack of skin, a cold dead gaze,
lighting me on fire, my mind ablaze.

They thought they could save him,
they went corrected.
You can not save,
what does not want to be resurrected.
