Colors of Grief

Melt the white from snowflakes in a jar,
And mix with a black drop from your darkest day.
Wait until your brush breathes smoke,
Then take comfort from me in gray.

Wrap gold from the sun around your fingers,
And blend with pink from the glasses beyond reach.
Wait until your brush smells of sweet fruit,
Then dream of me in peach.

Pull the yellow from a dandelion’s petals,
And stir with your tears’ blue sheen.
Wait until your brush drips leaves,
Then let go of me in green.

Dip into the red of your pain one last time,
Then add cool shades of healing to your art.
Wait until your canvas blooms lilac,
And live on although we’re apart.
